In this article, Sherlock vs. Sherlock: A Study in Holmes, the author compares several generations of Holmes adaptations. Each adaptation interpreted Holmes’ character differently, his appearance, personality… etc. While the Robert Downey Jr. Holmes favored a grittier, more intense character, the Benedict Cumberbach version favored the more intellectual, clean- cut Holmes. It also examines the “classic” older depictions of Holmes, comparing them to the more modern adaptations.
